How the Reckless Keyword Works
Characters with Reckless are the ultimate aggressors. They are fueled by a “mindless rage” that forces them into combat, making them powerful but difficult to control. In this Lorcana Reckless Guide you will learn all about them.

The Rules of Reckless

- Cannot Quest: A character with Reckless can never be exerted to gain Lore. Their lore value is effectively zero while they have this keyword.
- Must Challenge: If a character with Reckless is “Ready” (upright) and there is an available target to challenge (an exerted character or location), you cannot end your turn until that character has challenged.
- Order of Operations: You can still perform other actions first. If you exert a Reckless character for something else—like Singing a Song or using an Ability – they are no longer “Ready” to challenge, and the requirement is satisfied.
Strategic Use
- The Maui Strategy: Cards like Maui – Hero to All have Reckless because their stats are incredibly high for their cost. They are designed to be “removal on a stick” to clear your opponent’s board.
- Forcing the Opponent: Some Emerald cards can give your opponent’s characters Reckless. This is a great way to stop a character from questing and force them into a challenge where you can banish them.
